Sag Harbor trip

OK, I got a request for the pictures from Nanny so I leapt into blogging action...
Great trip to Sag Harbor - the nice weather really helped. We went to the beach (ocean and bay) where we flew Katie's new turtle kite, built sand castles...and Mommy got pooped on by a seagull.
Katie got to see her cousins Jimmy and Margaret and boy did they have fun - running around and around and jumping and running and making big bubbles and running some more. Kids sure know how to have fun!

Everyone liked seeing Danny. It meant a lot to Oma to meet him.
We had "Lobsterfest" on Nanny and Pop-Pop's deck, which was great. Mmmm...melted butter. Nothing beats lobsters caught in 1000 feet on water...
We went to the beach early one morning, also very cool. And multiple attempts to view the normally world-class sunsets at Long Beach were fruitless (stupid stratus clouds!).

Mommy and Daddy even went out on their own to get a drink! Yeah, it was only 45 minutes, but it was still pretty great. Don't get used to it Mom and Dad...

Oh, and we went to Montauk for a picnic at the lighthouse. Then we went to the docks and Katie saw some striped bass that were bigger than her!
The lengthy car ride out there now involves unplanned stops at random locations (the side of the road, off-ramps, small neighborhood cul-de-sacs, dirt roads) for bottle and/or potty breaks, which certainly adds some flavor (and hours) to the excursion.

Oma and Danny.

Katie talks about building sand castles all winter long and she just loves it.

Our new sun shelter tent to protect our alabaster skin from the sun's damaging UV rays (and heat). It works great.

Even Danny came to the beach one day. We've gotten great at lugging stuff into and out of the car this summer.

Margaret and Katie.

In a lifeguard chair early one morning.

Nanny and Danny. Hey, that rhymes.

Montauk lighthouse. That puppy was commissioned by George Washington ya know. At what age will these kids start appreciating some good ol' lighthouse factoids?

Post-Lobsterfest family photo. Notice the butter stains on everyone's shirts, pants, socks, shoes, face, arms and neck.

Drive In

We were able to go to the drive in this week. I went to my first drive in when I was in my late 20s; Danny went when he was 3 weeks old. What a good time! Katie enjoyed the movie ("Wall-E"), saw fireflies for the first time (!), and marvelled at the stars. And she liked the popcorn. Danny just slept the whole time (whew!). Sure, we packed quite a bit of stuff (as we were getting ready to leave the house, one of our neighbors asked if we were going out of town.) but we were pre-pared

The popcorn bucket is almost as big as she is!
